When it comes to my weekly fantasy football rankings I am at complete peace having Matt Ryan ahead of Kirk Cousins among the quarterbacks, for example. However, having Ryan at No. 12 for my Week 8 quarterback rankings is eating at me. Is he really worthy of QB1 status this week?
You might not like it, and I'm not sure I do either, but the answer is yes. Ryan has a pair of touchdown passes in each of his last five games. He is coming off back-to-back 300-yard performances. Ryan is averaging a respectable 278 passing yards per game, including his Week 1 clunker (164 yards). If we remove that outing, his average jumps to more than 300 yards per contest. Consider that only four of his peers are averaging that many at this point in the season — Tom Brady, Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, and Dak Prescott.
And as we look closer, Ryan's arrow is clearly on the upswing. He did throw a pick last week, but that was a result of Calvin Ridley allowing the DB to simply rip it out of his hands. Speaking of Ridley, he has yet to reach the century mark this season. If Ryan can get Ridley going, that should only improve his numbers.
Maybe I have Ryan a little high, but I am pretty confident about his being a top-15 quarterback this week.
