With practice squad running backs set to play Thursday night, look for Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball for plenty of yards
With five touchdown passes in Week 8, Patrick Mahomes was the top-scoring fantasy quarterback. He's still ranked No. 1 for Week 9. Mahomes faces the Carolina Panthers this week, which should be a tougher matchup than the New York Jets, but Mahomes is matchup-proof. Another matchup-proof quarterback is Russell Wilson. He threw for four more touchdowns in Week 8 and is ranked No. 3 for Week 9. The matchup against the Buffalo Bills may be tougher, but Wilson's fantasy owners should feel confident starting him.
Aaron Rodgers is ranked No. 2 this week, mostly because there isn't going to be much of a running game. Aaron Jones is still injured and is a big question mark if he's able to play at all on Thursday night. AJ Dillon was added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list and will miss this week's game. Jamaal Williams was identified as a close contact and will not be able to play because of quarantine protocols. Without the top three running backs, the Packers are likely going to focus on a pass-heavy attack. The 49ers are banged up on both sides of the ball and their defense has slipped as a result of the injuries. This bodes well for Rodgers, who should be throwing the ball all night.
