Many top running backs are getting injured this season, which should prompt fantasy managers to make sure they have a backup in case their No. 1 guy is out. For Week 5, Christian McCaffrey, Joe Mixon, and David Montgomery are not ranked. Based on injuries that happened over the past couple of weeks, it seems unlikely that any of these guys will suit up in Week 5.
That puts the focus on their backups. Chuba Hubbard, Samaje Perine, and Damien Williams should all be rostered and probably started on Sunday, depending on your options. Williams is the only one guaranteed to start right now with Montgomery already declared out while McCaffrey is doubtful and Mixon is questionable. Of course, keep an eye on any more updates leading into the game and then the inactive reports prior to kickoff for final confirmation on these situations as well as others (Dalvin Cook is questionable after getting in a limited practice on Friday meaning Alexander Mattison could get another start).
