Fantasy owners should think back about eight weeks ago, when they were drafting their running backs. Did you imagine that by Week 7, the top three running backs for the week would be none other than Chase Edmonds, Latavius Murray, and Austin Ekeler? Welcome to fantasy football.
Here's what we learned in Week 7: don't trust the Arizona Cardinals. Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, and Le'Veon Bell are RB2s. And always, always, always handcuff your running backs. Fantasy owners of David Johnson may have been duped by the Cardinals, but hopefully they at least had Edmonds on their bench (what's worse: starting Johnson over Edmonds or not having Edmonds at all?).
One of the biggest waiver wire adds this week is going to be Ty Johnson of the Detroit Lions (assuming Edmonds is owned). Kerryon Johnson injured his knee in Week 7 and the team placed him on injured reserve. Given that he's not eligible to come back until Week 16, he can be safely dropped in most re-draft formats. The next man up is Ty Johnson, who comes in at No. 25 for Week 8. He faces the Giants defense who just allowed Edmonds to run all over them, so he's a borderline RB2. His downside is that he will be sharing some work with J.D. McKissic (ranked No. 44).
