Three Bargain Buys at Quarterback on DraftKings and FanDuel in Week 2

These QBs won't break the bank and offer solid DFS upside given their matchups in Week 2.

While quarterbacks typically have the highest floor of any position, their salaries for daily fantasy contests on DraftKings and FanDuel don’t always match up with public perception.

Week 2 Positional Rankings: QB I RB I WR I TE I DST I K I Flex

Here’s a look at the top three mid-priced quarterbacks for Week 2 on the main slate on Sunday:

Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (DraftKings – $5,700/FanDuel – $7,500)

The weather was a significant factor for Lance in Week 1, leading to just 164 passing yards and an unappealing completion rate (46.4 percent) and yards per attempt (5.9). He did run the ball 13 times for 54 yards. The 49ers played without George Kittle (groin) and their top running back (Elijah Mitchell) left the game early with a knee injury. Seattle showed risk defending the pass (340/1) and the run (20/103 – 5.2 yards per rush), but the Seahawks only allowed 16 points to the Broncos. I expect San Francisco to bounce back at home with Lance throwing the ball with more success. However, the 49ers can’t afford to lose another game, so a bad start to the game could lead to a trip to the showers in the second half. I view him as a top-five quarterback play in Week 2 due to his high floor as a runner.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (DraftKings – $6,400/FanDuel – $8,000)

Tampa Bay only scored 19 points against Dallas, but Brady showed that he is going to be challenging to defend in 2022. Julio Jones had a bounce in his step and Tampa needs him out of the gate, with Chris Godwin expected to miss a couple of games with a hamstring issue. Game pace led to Brady passing for only 212 yards with a touchdown due to 27 pass attempts. In 2021, he passed for 375 yards and four touchdowns in New Orleans while struggling at home (214/0). The Saints held Marcus Mariota to 215 passing yards with no touchdowns via the air. However, he did have success vs. them in the run game (12/72/1). With 300 passing yards and three touchdowns, Brady will be worth his investment in the daily space.

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (DraftKings – $6,200/FanDuel – $7,300)

It took all of one game in Las Vegas for Carr to show that Davante Adams (10/141/1) won’t lose any fantasy value with his new team. He passed for 295 yards with two touchdowns, but three passes ended up in the hands of Chargers’ defenders. Arizona failed to defend the Chiefs’ receivers, leading to Patrick Mahomes finishing Week 1 as the top quarterback (365/5). The Cardinals didn’t record a sack while allowing 9.2 yards per pass attempt and 4.6 yards per carry. This week, the Raiders need to get Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller more involved in the passing game to improve their ability to move the ball. DraftKings lists this game with the highest over/under (51.5) of the week.
