Week 1 of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday night which means fantasy football is almost back too! And with that comes weekly rankings including tight ends.
Now, don’t go expecting anything too dramatically different from my preseason TE tiers. For example, most of the TEs I like less than the ECR (Expert Consensus Rankings) are within three slots. The one exception is Jared Cook. And that is more because of my already proclaimed love for Donald Parham Jr. in my deep sleeper article. However, against Washington is not the time to expect much from Parham. Of course, I wouldn’t expect much from Cook either this week.
On the flip side, I don’t have many TEs that I like a whole lot more than the ECR either. There is one exception, and depending on your league settings, he might not even be a TE. I’m already on record as saying I like him:
But partly due to the Adam Trautman injury, I think the Juwan Johnson breakout season starts this week. We know Jameis Winston likes targeting tall tight ends like the 6-foot-4 Johnson. Back when Winston was starting for Tampa Bay, he targeted his tight ends an average of 108 times. Those targets lead to an average of 71 catches, 859 yards and nine touchdowns per year. Don’t say I didn’t tell you!
