Mike Gesicki is No. 12 in my week 16 fantasy tight end rankings, making him a start-worthy option in a standard league. So it's not as if I think he's a terrible option this week.
I just like him much less than the ECR (Expert Consensus Ranking) does this week. And I think my reasons are pretty good.
For one, he's visiting the Saints in New Orleans, and they're in the top ten of fewest fantasy points allowed to TEs this season, including their recent shutdown of Rob Gronkowski, who is a better TE than Gesicki.
Furthermore, have you seen how ugly Gesicki's numbers are trending coming into this week? He hasn't caught a TD since Week 7. He hasn't eclipsed 100 receiving yards since Week 6. He hasn't even exceeded half that mark since before Veterans Day. In his last five games, he has 20 total catches.
DeVante Parker is back, and Jaylen Waddle will likely be as well, meaning Gesicki's targets numbers should get even smaller. Gesicki is a mediocre option this week.
