Tight End Rankings: NFL Fantasy Week 18

Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons

Kyle Pitts' impressive rookie season adds another early-round option to the TE pool for 2022 fantasy drafts

I don't have a lot to say about my Week 18 fantasy tight end rankings. They are pretty close to the ECR (Expert Consensus Rankings) this week and I don't have anything too enlightening to say about the position this week.

So perhaps we take a very look at the position for next year? Because I think when we all start to prepare our 2022 fantasy football cheat sheets, some might be surprised how deep the position is.

My guess is Travis Kelce will top the list, but at least for now, he is not the clear-cut, obvious No. 1 choice. Remember, Mark Andrews is currently the top fantasy tight end (depending on league scoring settings). It just makes that top of tiers that much stronger, as I would be shocked if Kelce, Andrews and George Kittle make it past the third round in next year's drafts. A healthy Darren Waller is another potential top-40 overall pick at the position.

But where the TE pool definitely improves next season is the next tier. As long as Rob Gronkowski is catching passes from Tom Brady, he'll get plenty of early-round consideration. I expect Gronk to go within the first 50 picks. Dawson Knox, Dallas Goedert, and maybe even Zach Ertz, should all go within a round or two after that. We could argue Kyle Pitts might even go before Gronk. Hunter Henry and Pat Freiermuth already have 16 TDs combined. We easily have at least 10 TEs that will be drafted within the first 10 rounds and likely higher.

And more. Even the next tier is strong. T.J Hockenson, Mike Gesicki, Noah Fant, and Evan Engram might gain or lose value depending on talent acquired in the offseason. But all could easily be difference-makers in 2022. Throw in prospective value picks like Tyler Higbee, Dan Arnold, Gerald Everett, and C.J. Uzomah and you realize just how deep TE will be next year. Add in some of the young guys with high ceilings like Brevin Jordan along with this upcoming rookie class and I'm liking what I see for next year's tight ends!
