Week 7 DFS Elite Quarterbacks: Mahomes, Herbert, Jackson

DraftKings and FanDuel players looking for a strong outing from their quarterback must consider Lamar Jackson as the top option.

As the season moves on, the top quarterbacks slowly work their way to their expected rankings. The three quarterbacks underperforming their expectations by the widest margin based on their position ranking in the National Fantasy Football Championship are Justin Herbert (drafted 2nd – ranks 9th), Russell Wilson (drafted 8th – ranks 17th), and Aaron Rodgers (drafted 13th – ranks 20th).

Week 7 Positional Rankings: QB I RB I WR I TE I DST I K I Flex

Here are the top five quarterbacks and their fantasy points after six games:

· Josh Allen (198.70)

· Lamar Jackson (165.95)

· Patrick Mahomes (164.20)

· Jalen Hurts (163.00)

· Joe Burrow (149.80)

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (DraftKings – $7,200/FanDuel – $8,100)

Over the past two weeks, Herbert struggled to deliver scoring plays (one touchdown on 91 pass attempts), leading to 466 yards and only 5.1 yards per pass attempt. Some of his failures could be tied to his rib injury suffered in Week 3. He sits ninth in quarterback scoring (124.90 fantasy points) while delivering three steady games (280/3, 335/3, and 335/2). The Seahawks rank 24th in defending quarterbacks (21.98 FPPG) with one poor showing (DET – 378/4). Seattle kept Kyler Murray (222/0) under wraps in the passing game in Week 6, thanks to season-high six sacks. If Keenan Allen returns this week, Herbert should have his best passing success of the year. The Seahawks allow 8.4 yards per pass attempt, which screams an explosive passing game for the Chargers.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens (DraftKings – $8,000/FanDuel – $8,800)

After two dynamic games in Week 2 (437/4) and Week 3 (325/4), Jackson proved to be mortal over his next three starts (16.50, 17.50, and 20.20 fantasy points). He played the last two weeks without his top wide receiver (Rashod Bateman). In 2021, the Browns held him to 233 combined yards with one score in Baltimore. Jackson is on a tremendous pace running the ball (159/1,278/6) while also expected to set career highs in passing yards (3,618) and passing scores (37). Cleveland is league average against the quarterback position (19.29 FPPG), with two teams passing for over 300 yards (NYJ – 309/4 and NE – 309/2). The Browns’ defense allowed eight touchdowns and 68 points over their previous two matchups. Cleveland allowed at least two rushing touchdowns in each of their past four games. Jackson looks poised to put his name back at the top of the quarterback rankings in Week 7.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (DraftKings – $7,800/FanDuel – $8,500)

The 49ers have the third-best defense against quarterbacks (14.22 FFPG), but they lost their top pass rusher (Nick Bosa) in Week 5 with a groin issue. Some of their success on defense was helped by playing multiple teams (CHI, DEN, and CAR) with poor offenses. Overall, San Francisco allows 3.3 yards per rush and 6.3 yards per pass attempt. Mahomes will overcome his challenging matchup by volume of pass attempts (38.3 per game in 2022). His wide receiving corps played better over the past two matchups (25/400/2), while the Chiefs continue to get elite production from the tight end position (51/534/8 on 68 targets). Mahomes has an against-the-grain feel in this matchup. Kansas City’s defense allowed 20 points or more in all six contests, suggesting their offense will need a minimum of three touchdowns to win the game. I expect all the Chiefs’ scoring to come via the pass against the 49ers.
