Wide Receiver Rankings: NFL Fantasy Week 9

When it comes to Smith-Schuster in his first season with the Chiefs, it's been mostly good JuJu for his fantasy managers.

The Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR) is suffering from a severe case of recency bias in the Week 9 fantasy wide receiver rankings. Or perhaps it is a "primary DFS slate" bias.

Because if it's not either of those two things, I can't figure out for the life of me why I have Chris Olave, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Devin Duvernay all so much higher than the ECR.

Well, the Olave thing makes sense. Baltimore got Roquan Smith at the deadline and that Baltimore secondary is better than people think. And both the ECR and I have him as a WR1. But I have Smith-Schuster as a high-end WR2 this week and the ECR has him as a WR3. And I have Duvernay inside the top 25, but the ECR barely has him as a WR3.

Allow me to explain why I like each of those options so much. Rashod Bateman is going to be out for a few weeks and Mark Andrews may or may not play on Monday night. That makes Duvernay the top target for Lamar Jackson. The last time that happened was against Cincinnati earlier this season and Duvernay posted 12.8 fantasy points. And that was against Cincinnati. The Bengals are a top-10 defense in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers while the Saints are on the opposite end of the spectrum (ninth-most generous). He's probably a pretty popular waiver wire add this week and for good reason!

As far as Smith-Schuster goes, we start with a great matchup as the Titans have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing WRs. A big part of that is that the Tennessee defense is tied for fourth in allowing the most TD passes. And people don't even realize how good of a season the former Steeler is having! He is currently the 20th-best WR in PPR formats. And in his last two games, he both scored and surpassed the century mark in both. I think this is definitely one I got right over the ECR.

To see who else I have a difference of opinion with the ECR, check out the rest of my Week 9 WR rankings below.
