Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers center, was announced as the cover athlete for EA SPORTS’ NHL 18 at the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft in Las Vegas.
“I’ve played EA SPORTS NHL every year since I was kid,” McDavid said. “To appear on the cover, something that has been done previously by so many players that I respect and admire, is very exciting. I can’t wait to play NHL 18.”
In addition to the cover, EA SPORTS announced the game's newest features.
Creative Attack controls: Deke your opponents out of their skates in a lot more ways, including one-handed moves, between-the-legs dekes, back-handed toe-drags, heel drags, cheeky puck flips and more.
Defensive Skill Stick: Get full control over your stick to target poke checks, keep your stick extended against an attacker to disrupt a play, and even sweep your stick back and forth to cover a zone.
Expansion Mode: Create a 32nd team and go through the expansion draft process. Your team can be located in a variety of cities in North America, as well as a few cities in Europe.
Authentic 3-on-3 EASHL: Players of the franchise most likely know about EASHL, a way of teaming up with others online and playing games with your character. For players and teams that can’t get five players and don’t trust the computers, NHL 18 has added a 3-on-3 EASHL mode, similar to how overtime is played in real-life.
NHL THREES: This game mode is similar to the new EASHL mode listed above but will have a more arcade style of play. Players will be able to play this mode both offline and online, with the offline version offering a campaign mode where the player will compete against different teams and leagues.
