Yankees Use Cam Newton and Russell Wilson as Opposing Examples on Dealing With Media

Don't be like Cam Newton, according to the Yankees.

The Yankees are just the latest to draw attention to the Panthers quarterback and his post-Super Bowl interview. It's interesting that people are still talking about it, but here we are. The baseball team wants their players to handle the media a certain way, something more like Russell Wilson. The Yankees compared Newton's Super Bowl post game conference to that of Wilson's from the year prior. Both tough losses, but they were handled differently by the star quarterbacks. Wilson sat there and talked to the media, and Newton infamously walked out.

According to ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand, this is how the session went.

"During the Yankees' media training, the Super Bowl is being used to portray the right and wrong way to act. Part of a video shown to pitchers and catchers compares how Cam Newton handled his Super Bowl loss to the way Russell Wilson dealt with his defeat the previous year."

In other words, be passionate in the game, but when you lose don't show that you're human.
