Web.com Tour announces 2014 schedule

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Web.com Tour announced its 2014 schedule on Friday and the season will again begin in South America.

The 2014 slate kicks off with the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship on Feb. 13, which will be followed in three weeks by the Chile Classic.

The Panama Claro Championship concludes the early Latin American swing on March 20 before the Web.com Tour heads to the U.S. the next week for the Chitimacha Louisiana Open.

After moving down to Mexico for the next event, the tour returns to American soil for the WNB Golf Classic in Texas prior to beginning a four-event swing along the east coast, which will be capped by the first of three new events on the schedule, the Cleveland Open at Lakewood Country Club on June 5.

The annual stop in Wichita for the Air Capital Classic follows two weeks later before the Web.com Tour makes its first-ever trip into Canada for the Nova Scotia Classic on July 3 at Ashburn Golf Club's New Course in Halifax.

The final seven events during the regular season will all take place inside the United States and will be capped by the final new event on the 2014 slate, the Portland Open at Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Aug. 21.

Also during that span will be the Boise Open, Price Cutter Charity Championship and News Sentinel Open, which join the Air Capital Classic as the only events to have been competed during all 25 years of the Web.com Tour.

The Web.com Tour Finals return this season and will again have 25 PGA Tour cards up for grabs to those who did not secure one of the 25 awarded during the regular season.

The four Finals events will be the same as last season, starting with the Hotel Fitness Championship on Aug. 28. That will be followed by the Chiquita Classic and Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship before the season concludes with the Web.com Tour Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

"Last year was a big year for the Web.com Tour and we have a lot to celebrate in 2014," Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee said. "The tour turns 25 and four tournaments share the anniversary with us. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all of our tournament organizers, host venues, sponsors, volunteers and fans and extend a very special thank you to Boise, Idaho, Knoxville, Tenn., Springfield, Mo. and Wichita, Kan. for all they have done to promote the Web.com Tour and impact their communities over the last quarter century."
