Kentucky Mule Recipe

It's Kentucky Derby time, break out the copper mugs!

What better way to celebrate the Kentucky Derby than with this uniquely southern, bourbon-infused twist on the Moscow Mule and the Dark & Stormy, known as—you guess it—the Kentucky Mule

This recipe features ginger beer, which is much spicier than ginger ale. The Moscow Mule, traditionally served in a copper mug, is made with vodka, ginger beer, and a squeeze of lime. The Dark & Stormy has its roots in Bermuda and combines Goslings dark rum, ginger beer and lime.

But this drink, from the The Bourbon Country Cookbook, co-authored by Chef David Danielson, the executive chef at Churchill Downs, uses our favorite southern whiskey, glorious bourbon.

This Kentucky Mule recipe makes one cocktail.

1.5 ounces bourbon
3 ounces ginger beer
Squeeze of 1 lime wedge (about 1/8 teaspoon)
Lime wedge, for garnish

Combine the bourbon, ginger beer, and a squeeze of lime in the rocks glass filled with ice. Stir the mixture, garnish with a lime wedge, and serve.
