Pick 6: Our Favorite Things for November

In each issue of Athlon Sports & Life, we pick six of our favorite things. They may be books, automobiles, games, gear, booze, apparel or whatever happens to be awesome. Here's what made our shortlist this month:

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor

We've always been a fan of the beastly Raptor, but the newest edition has us flat-out thrilled. Here's why: Ford shaved off 500 pounds, improved clearance for off-road adventures, added an all-new 10-speed transmission and is powering it with a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost that squeezes out 450 horses. Plus, it looks like it would eat your wife's Subaru Forester for a mid-morning snack. $49,520

Matador FreeRain24 Backpack

If it were just an average backpack, we'd like it. But the fact that it actually packs down into something that can fit into our pocket means we love it. It's ideal to keep in the car, or even to bring on your next vacation. It's waterproof, extremely durable (we loaded it up with some heft and it help up nicely), and is sizable, holding up to 24 liters. Unlike some packed-down items, we had no problem getting it back into its pocket-sized pouch after using it. $60

Abner Doubleday Double Play Vodka

Image placeholder title

Let's be clear, the vodka is good, but that's not why you're buying it. The Cooperstown Distillery, located in Cooperstown, N.Y.,—the hometown of the National Baseball Hall of Fame—crafts spirits such as Double Play, Bean Ball Bourbon, and Spitball Cinnamon Whiskey. The vodka comes in a hand-blown bottle shaped like a baseball that features 108 stitches and a reproduction of baseball creator Abner Doubleday's signature. Simply put, it's a ready-made gift for any baseball fan who enjoys well-displayed spirits. $50

1000 Stories Bourbon Barrel Aged Wine

This California wine describes itself as "a harmonious balance of Zinfandel grapes from Mendocino and Sonoma counties, which is bursting with aromatic red fruit scents and complex black fruit flavors.  A touch of Petite Sirah and Syrah enhance those flavors even more with bold black and white pepper spices. The batch is then rounded out with a layer of smokiness derived from the new bourbon barrel aging." Our take? It's a wonderful red that has hints of its bourbon barrel soaking, has a nice fruitiness and is absolutely fantastic with a steak. $19

LIVV PRO Headphones

Former NFL player Mark Clayton got tired of searching for over-ear wireless headphones that wouldn't fall off during his intense workouts, so he came up with his own. These cans fit tightly but comfortably around your ears, sync up quickly to your phone (and also have a built-in 8GB of storage for up to 4,000 songs to go phone-free) and sound phenomenal. The highs are clear and the bass is rich and deep. We took them for a spin around the gym and found that they live up to their hype. $299

Dimple Self-Chilling Pint Glasses

Here's our favorite equation: Beer + Cold = Good. That's the formula used to create these self-chilling carriers of beer goodness. So how's it work? You get a pint glass, magnetically attach a frozen insert to the bottom of the glass and voila, your beer stays cold. It's easy to use, and best of all, it works. $49 (set of 2)
