The Chicago Cubs completed the sweep after shutting out the Baltimore Orioles for the second straight game on Thursday by the score of 8-0.

Here is what you need to know from the series finale on Thursday.

Happy Birthday, Steele!

The Cubs pitcher Justin Steele had a birthday to remember on Thursday as he led Chicago to a shutout against the top team in the American League. Steele went seven scoreless innings in the series finale, striking out four and only allowing three hits.

Steele was rolling on Thursday but was removed after 70 pitches. It looked like he could have gone the distance a second straight complete game, but was removed due to the team holding such a strong lead.

Cubs Offense is on Fire

Over the series, the team has outscored the Orioles 21-2. They didn't slow down on Thursday. The team scored eight off 13 hits in the series finale including five extra base hits.

Swanson Gets a Much Needed Bounce Back

The Cubs finally got some good news on top of the series win this week against the Orioles. Dansby Swanson started to swing the bat well over the series and hit a homer in the series finale on Thursday.

The no-doubter by Swanson went 425 feet to extend the lead for the Cubs. Dansby Swanson has struggled this season, so hopefully he can turn it around. It was his ninth home run of the season.

What's Next

The Chicago Cubs will head to St. Louis for four games in three days in a weekend series against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. This will be the final series for the Cubs before the All-Star Break. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 8:15 PM EST.
