Reds Offense Comes Alive At Coors Field with Win Over Rockies
The Cincinnati Reds start the final series of the road trip with an impressive 13-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Here is what you need to know about the series-opening win.
Reds Offense Erupts
The Cincinnati Offense set season-highs for both hits and runs in Monday's victory. Every single Reds starter found themselves in the hit category as they recorded 18 on the night.
The home run party continued for Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario as he hit his third homer in his last 10 games.
Jeimer Candelario now has seven homers on the season and 23 RBIs. He finished the day two for five and is now hitting .321/.367/.643 in his last seven games.
Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson also got his sixth homer of the season in the top of the ninth inning, making the lead double digits.
Jack Fraley also extends his hit streak to eight games after a first pitch swinging single in second inning. He finished the day with one for five as he was very aggressive in the batters box, only seeing five pitches in his five at-bats.
Elly is Back
Heading into the series with a 0-15 slump, the Reds shortstop found his way out of it Monday in Colorado. The first good sign for him started with his first at-bat of the night. Elly De La Cruz hit a line drive pit to start his day in the first inning. Although he was called out, his hit was 109.7 mph off the bat.
The night continued well for De La Cruz when the 0 for 16 skid was finally erased as the Reds Shortstop hit an RBI double to give Cincinnati a 2-1 lead.
Elly finished the day with only one hit in four at-bats, but he is definitely heading in the right direction.
Andrew Abbott Gets It Done
After what appeared to be a probable short start for Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott, the 25-year-old found his way to his fifth quality start of the season. He did it at one of the toughest ballparks to pitch at with his outing at Coors Field.
Abbott struggled early, allowing all three of his runs to score in the first three innings. He had a dreadful 30-pitch third, and 66 pitches after three. The left-hander settled down though and made it through six full innings on 96 pitches.
One downside, Abbott allowed another one to leave the yard. He now has 12 homers allowed this season. That's tied for third-most in MLB.
He produced 13 whiffs with a 27% CSW on the night and only allowed three hard hits in the outing.
