San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants placed struggling relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against Colorado.
The move came one day after Affeldt allowed four runs and three hits while failing to record an out in an appearance against San Diego. The Giants said the veteran lefty is dealing with a shoulder strain.
Affeldt owns a 5.96 ERA, his highest since joining the Giants in 2009, over 33 games this season. The 36-year-old has given up five home runs and walked 11 batters in 22 2/3 innings.
Right-hander Mike Broadway was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take Affeldt's bullpen spot. Broadway made four relief appearances with the Giants earlier this season, permitting a run over 4 2/3 innings.
