Phillies Drop Series With Diamondbacks, Finish Road Trip 4-6
The Philadelphia Phillies (69-49) have done everything in their power to keep from reaching 70 wins. After dropping game four to the Arizona Diamondbacks (66-53) on Sunday, they finish their West Coast trip 4-6, and lose their sixth series out of the last seven.
Nothing Going Right
When the hitters are hitting, it's the pitching that is the issue. When the pitchers are pitching, it's the hitting that is the issue. Outside of the series againt the Los Angeles Dodgers (68-49) earlier in the week, the Phillies can not get everything on the same page all at once in the second half.
Five times in the second half, the Phillies offense has scored five or more runs in losing efforts. They have only won six games in that time when scoring five or more runs.
The Phillies have lost four games in the second half where the pitching allowed four or less runs. They have won seven such games.
If there is a silver lining to the slump, the Phillies do have time to turn things around before the playoffs. On the other hand, if they do not turn things around quick enough, there may be no playoffs for the Phillies.
Notable Stats
- Sanchez allowed a new career-high in hits on Sunday with 12. His previous career high was eight.

- Alec Bohm hit his 43rd double of the season in the first inning. He is quickly approaching the franchise record for doubles by a third baseman which is 45.
- Jose Alvarado has been unusable over the last month. He has made 15 appearances since July 1st, and has a 7.90 ERA in that time, allowing 12 earned runs and accruing a 1.76 WHIP.
WPA Leader of the Game
Sunday's WPA leader of the game is Diamondbacks catcher Adrian Del Castillo for the second time this series. Del Castillo, a rookie, hit the first home run of his career on Friday night in walk-off fashion. On Sunday, Del Castillo would go 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and a run. He would finish the day with 18.4 WPA.
