Many Historic Players Have Represented Both The New York Yankees And Los Angeles Dodgers

287 players and multiple Hall-of-Famers have played for both the Yankees and Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees have shared a lot of history, including multiple Hall-of-Fame players.

287 players throughout MLB history have appeared for both teams that are about to compete in the 2024 World Series. Multiple players on the postseason rosters have appeared in both the Yankee pinstripes and Dodger blue.

Tommy Kahnle

The Yankee reliever has pitched in parts of six seasons with the ballclub, but he also spent time with the Dodgers in the middle of it all. He appeared in 129 games for the Bronx Bombers between 2018 and 2020. The righty then spent 2022 with the Dodgers before returning to the Yankees in 2023.

Alex Verdugo

The outfielder began his career with the Dodgers and spent three years in LA before being traded away in the Mookie Betts deal. The Yankees acquired Verdugo this past offseason and he spent 2024 as the team’s primary left fielder.

Anthony Banda

The reliever has dazzled out of the Dodgers’ bullpen this postseason, and he made a career-high 48 appearances during the regular season. Banda had a short stint with the Yankees in 2022 as he played for three teams that year.

Many notable players in MLB history have also played for both teams.

Willie Randolph

The second baseman spent 13 years with the Bronx Bombers and helped the team win the 1977 World Series. He signed with the Dodgers in 1988 and was an All-Star in his one full season with the team.

Rickey Henderson

The stolen-base champion began his career with the Oakland Athletics before joining the Yankees in 1985. He swiped 326 bags in five seasons with the Bronx Bombers. Henderson ended up playing 25 years in MLB with his final stop being with the Dodgers. He played 30 games as a Dodger in 2003 to close out his career.

Tony Lazzeri

The second baseman made his debut in 1926 and spent the next 12 years with the Yankees. He won five Wild Series titles with the Bronx Bombers and played 14 games with the Dodgers during his final MLB season in 1939.

Tommy John

The starter spent three years with the Dodgers before missing the 1975 season after having surgery on his elbow. John returned to action the following season and pitched three more elite seasons with the team. He would also spend parts of eight seasons with the Yankees during his 26-year career.

Dizzy Vance

Before the pitcher was a triple crown and MVP winner with the Dodgers, he made 10 appearances for the Yankees. Vance would join the Dodgers at 31 years old and win 190 games with the team.
