Marlins' Stanton undergoes surgery on broken hand

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton had surgery performed on his left hand on Sunday, with the timetable for his return remaining 4-to-6 weeks.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Patrick Owens, a hand specialist, at the University of Miami Hospital.

Stanton fractured the hamate bone in his left hand on a swing on Friday night against the Dodgers at Marlins Park. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

In 74 games, Stanton is batting .265 with a major league-best 27 homers and 67 RBI.
