Recap: Oakland vs. San Diego

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Kemp and Derek Norris each homered to back a solid start by Ian Kennedy as the San Diego Padres defeated the Oakland Athletics, 3-1, to snap a four-game losing streak.

Kennedy (4-5) surrendered a run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six innings.

The Padres helped interim manager Pat Murphy to his first MLB victory.

"It was a good ball game," said Murphy. "It's a little silly to make it about me... Hats off to Kennedy today."

Josh Phegley homered for the Athletics, who had their four-game winning streak stopped.

Kendall Graveman (3-4), who allowed one run in each of his last two starts, was charged with two runs in seven innings.

Kennedy kept Oakland's bats quiet after the A's put up 16 in Wednesday's win. He allowed just a pair of hits over the first five innings, a two-out double to Brett Lawrie in the second and a single to Billy Burns in the third.

Kemp got the scoring started with a two-out homer in the fourth off Graveman, and Norris made it 2-0 with a solo blast to left to begin the sixth.

Phegley answered Norris' big fly with one of his own to start the home sixth and move Oakland to within one.

Melvin Upton Jr. sent a deep drive to right center to lead off the eighth off Fernando Rodriguez and raced around the bags for a triple as Josh Reddick and Burns collided at the wall. Both players were looked at by Athletics personnel, mainly Reddick, and the two stayed in the game.

Justin Upton knocked in his brother two batters later with a sacrifice fly to first baseman Stephen Vogt in foul territory.

Craig Kimbrel came on for the ninth and secured his 17th save despite allowing a two-out double to Vogt.

Oakland has dropped Graveman's last three starts after grabbing wins in each of his previous three outings ... San Diego has won each of Kennedy's last four starts ... The Padres improved to 6-2 on the season after allowing 10 or more runs ... The A's have gone 11-21 against teams with losing records.
