Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Schoop's solo home run was all Baltimore needed, as the Orioles will carry momentum into the postseason following a 1-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The AL East champion Orioles, who already secured the second-best record in the American League, avoided a four-game losing skid to finish the regular season. Schoop's homer was the 16th of his first full major league season.
Miguel Gonzalez (10-9) gave up five hits in five innings in his final tune-up before the postseason. The right-hander is expected to start Game 2 or 3 of the ALDS.
Baltimore (96-66) will host AL Central winner Detroit in the ALDS, with Game 1 set for Thursday at Camden Yards.
"Its going to be rocking in Baltimore," O's center fielder Adam Jones said.
Ubaldo Jimenez struck out the side in an inning of relief as five Baltimore relievers allowed just one hit over the final four innings. Zach Britton nailed down his 37th save of the season, pitching around a leadoff single in the ninth.
R.A. Dickey (14-13) took the tough-luck loss after giving up a run on two hits in six innings of work. The knuckleballer had won his last five decisions and failed to reach 15 wins for the second time in his career with the setback.
The Blue Jays (83-79) finished the season in third place in the AL East. They haven't finished in second or higher since 2006.
"We're all disappointed with the way it ended up," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "We played some good ball, we just didn't play good enough."
Schoop worked the count full with two outs in the fifth inning, then crushed Dickey's 84 mph fastball over the wall in left-center.
Ryan Goins tripled to left with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, but Gonzalez got Jose Reyes to line out to strand him on third.
Edwin Encarnacion singled to center to start the ninth against Britton. Pinch- hitter Danny Valencia lined into a double play, however, before Dalton Pompey struck out swinging to end it.
Chris Tillman will start Game 1 of the ALDS for the Orioles ... Baltimore went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position ... Toronto ended the season with a 5-2 homestand ... Dickey is 0-4 against the Orioles since joining Toronto prior to the 2013 season.
