Tigers activate Avila from DL

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers have activated catcher Alex Avila from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old landed on the disabled list with a deep bruise on his left forearm after getting hit by a pitch on June 16. He spent a week on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, where he hit .242 (8-for-33).

Avila, who has hit .172 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 48 games for the Tigers this season, will bat ninth and start behind the plate in Tuesday's matchup.
