For the last decade, MLB has celebrated Memorial Day and July 4th by accenting its teams’ uniforms with some sort of additional patriotic flair — be it stars and stripes patterns or camouflage hats and numbers.
MLB also includes Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in its special-event uniform offerings, with baby blue (Father’s Day) and pink (Mother’s Day) serving as the prevailing feature for each team’s cap and jersey. This season, instead of breaking it these out just once for each holiday, the league has decided that teams will don these unique duds for the entirety of each respective holiday weekend.
This Father’s Day weekend, every team will be wearing the same template: baby blue lettering, piping, and numbers on the jerseys (sans Giants) and baby blue caps with graphite bills and white and blue logos complete with new, stylish Stance brand socks.
As usual, MLB is marketing the heck out of their special holiday threads, urging fans to look the part in honoring their old man for the weekend — and for good reason, as licensed uniform royalties will be donated to Stand Up to Cancer and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Here’s one baseball fan’s list of the 10 best Father’s Day special uniforms (in alphabetical order):

The Diamondbacks will be in Philly for the weekend, so their unique charcoal gray roads will stay the same color. The font across the chest will be in powder blue along with sleeve piping, but what makes these uniforms stand out will be the diamondback rattler on the sleeve in a friendlier shade of blue.
One of the most timeless, yet simplistic designs in all of sports, the home uniform for the Detroit Tigers, will get a powder blue makeover for Father’s Day weekend. The old English D looks good in any color.
Kansas City Royals
The Father’s Day makeover is subtle for the already blue-clad Royals, so the distinction while subtle remains stylish as Kansas City heads to the West Coast for a weekend series with the Angels.
Los Angeles Dodgers
These would be my favorite threads of the weekend if the Dodgers were playing at Chavez Ravine. Unfortunately Los Angeles is on the road in Cincinnati, but swapping legendary Dodger blue for Father’s Day baby blue works just as well for the road grays.
The road gray mixed with the celebratory blue for the weekend actually makes the Marlins’ uniform better than their typical fiesta-themed ensemble.
New York Mets
The baby blue script font over the traditional stripes of the same hue will look really slick on the diamond when the Mets take on the Nationals this weekend at Citi Field.
The Phillies are throwing a curveball into their Father’s Day plans by going with the alternate cream base fabric with the baby blue script font across the chest. The combination of baby blue, graphite and cream should make for an interesting mix.
San Francisco Giants
For fear that they might look too much like the in-state rival Dodgers, the Giants won’t be surrendering their signature orange color on their chest plate or back numerals for Father’s Day weekend. It should be interesting to see how the road gray, orange and blue plays works out for the Giants this weekend.
The baby blue compass rose and unique font across the M’s road grays should look great this weekend as Seattle travels to Arlington to take on the Rangers.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have some of the best threads in all of sports, and this is no different when it comes to their special-event uniforms. The powder blue is sleek on the home whites, and accented perfectly with the slate gray names on the back and piping in the numbers.
