For the second straight year, the winner of the Great American Race was a first-time winner in the Cup Series period. Austin Cindric edged out Bubba Wallace by .036 seconds in overtime to claim the 2022 Daytona 500 for his first Cup win in eight career starts. Cindric is now the ninth driver to do so with Michael McDowell accomplishing this feat in 2021.
