The Minnesota Wild dropped a game they could ill-afford to lose Thursday night, falling to the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 at the Xcel Energy Center.
1. McDavid lives up to hype
Connor McDavid was taken with the first pick in the 2015 NHL draft. The speedy forward showed why during the Oilers' victory. He raced around Jared Spurgeon on a break and beat Darcy Kuemper for the game-winning goal late in the third.

2. Parise helps Wild stay in it
The Wild couldn't get anything going offensively early. Edmonton was without four of their top defenders, but still the Wild looked sluggish in the early going.

3. Pominville consecutive game streak ends
Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville's streak of 231 straight games came to an end Thursday night. Pominville, who has been battling a lower-body injury, did not play.
It's the first game he's missed in nearly three years and leaves him tied with Kyle Brodziak for the second-longest streak in Wild history.
According to the Associated Press, Pominville last missed a game on April 27, 2013, because of a concussion.
