Los Angeles Dodgers Bring Back Veteran Reliever on One-Year Deal

After an injury-plagued 2023, Daniel Hudson is heading back to the Dodgers on a one-year deal. He previously won a World Series with the Washington Nationals back in 2019.

After not being sure if he was going to continue playing in 2024, veteran reliever Daniel Hudson is going back to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one-year deal.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN:

Right-handed reliever Daniel Hudson and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a minor league contract, sources tell ESPN. Hudson, 36, missed most of last season with knee injuries and will earn $2 million if he makes the team, up to $2 million more in performance bonuses.

In addition to an injury-plagued 2023, he also had an injury-rattled 2022.

Hudson suffered a torn ACL in the summer of 2022, then came back this past year to make those three appearances before suffering an MCL sprain.

Hudson has pitched in parts of 14 Major League seasons with the White Sox, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Blue Jays, Padres, Dodgers and Nationals. He made his debut with the White Sox in 2009 and was an integral part of the Nationals' World Series run in 2019, serving as their closer once being acquired.

Lifetime, he's a 59-43 pitcher with a 3.79 ERA. He's served as a starter for some portions of his career, even winning 16 games with the 2011 Diamondbacks.

He's made 10 career postseason appearances as well, pitching to a 1-1 record a 5.40 ERA.

The chance to pitch in the postseason could have possibly served as a motivator for Hudson to come back. The Dodgers have made the playoffs 11 years in a row and since signing Shohei Ohtani last weekend, they are clearly among the favorites to win the World Series next year.
