3 Days to the NFR: Bareback Rider No. 3 Kade Sonnier

Breakout rookie bareback rider, Kade Sonnier, qualifies for his first National Finals Rodeo in style.

The Wrangler Nationals Finals Rodeo kicks off in three days at the Thomas & Mack arena in Las Vegas. The NFR will take place from Dec. 7-16.

Kade Sonnier is a breakout rookie sensation in the bareback riding event. The Carencro, La., native made it a mission to make it to the NFR after watching his daddy ride in 2018. Sonnier's father, Joey Sonnier, rode in the saddle bronc event in the 2018 NFR.

If it weren't for Keenan Hayes, Sonnier would have been the clear candidate for the Resistol Rookie of the Year award.

Sonnier had a more than impressive 2023 regular season. Situating himself in the No. 3 spot before the NFR and claiming $160,469 in earnings on the year, Sonnier is set up pretty good for a chance at a world championship title.

With some really big wins over the season, Sonnier completed a feat only some riders ever dream of. Sonnier won both the Calgary Stampede and the Cheyenne Frontier Days, and did it all in the same season.

With over $50,000 in earnings earned at the Calgary Stampede, this was definitely crucial to Sonnier to be in the position he is now.

After having such success at these big rodeos, Sonnier should be no stranger to how to handle his nerves. Being among one of the five bareback riders to make their debut at the NFR. Also making their debut are Keenan Hayes, Dean Thompson, Jayco Roper, and Jacob Lees.

It's officially crunch time for the NFR. Many athletes have already arrived in Vegas, humans and livestock. With major preparation in store, you can bet Sonnier is getting ready to the best of his abilities, mentally and physically.
