Embiid, Sixers agree to $148M extension

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has agreed to a five-year, $148 million contract extension, according to a report by ESPN.

Embiid missed the first two years of his career while dealing with a serious foot ailment after the Sixers selected him third overall in the 2014 draft.

The 7-footer finally made his NBA debut this past season and he didn’t disappoint.

In 31 games, Embiid averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field.

Unfortunately, the injury bug bit Embiid again, as the big man suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee in February.

Embiid underwent surgery to repair the tear but he is expected to be in the Sixers' starting lineup on opening night.

Embiid, second-year point-forward Ben Simmons and rookie point guard Markelle Fultz are the three young cornerstones the Sixers are building around for the long-term.

NBA fans are excited to see the young trio on the court together in 2017.
