Lakers' Nance suffers likely hand fracture

Things that go up strong can sometimes come down too fast. That was the unfortunate truth experienced by Larry Nance Jr., the second-year Lakers forward and Akron product.

According to the Lakers, Nance suffered a "probable" break in his right hand after he took off for a dunk attempt, missed the dunk, then crashed to the court on his wrist.

It all took place during the Lakers' 88-80 loss to the Cavaliers in the summer league in Las Vegas on Thursday.

A preliminary X-ray revealed a fracture to the third medicarpal of Nance's right hand. The Lakers say they'll update Nance's status once he returns to Los Angeles on Friday to receive further examination.

Nance is 6-foot-9, played high school basketball at Bath Revere and collegiately at Wyoming. He is the son of Cavs legend Larry Nance, another high-flyer and late-bloomer.

Nance Jr. averaged 5.5 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Lakers in his rookie season.
