Report: Durant declining option, will re-sign with Warriors

Kevin Durant will decline his player option for the 2017-18 season but re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.

Durant is likely to sign another one-plus-one contract and he intends to take less than the max so that the Warriors can re-sign small forward Andre Iguodala.

Durant was set to make $28 million next season. ESPN is reporting that the 2017 Finals MVP will be taking about $4 million less to help Golden State keep its lethal core together.

In his first season with the Warriors, Durant averaged 25.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 37.5 percent beyond the arc.

Durant captured his first NBA title against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Iguodala has been linked to the Timberwolves, Jazz, and Clippers, among others.
