Zips stay hot, cruise by Gauchos in Vegas
Akron just keeps displaying offensive balance and determined defense, and therefore just keeps winning games.
The latest example came Monday afternoon in Las Vegas -- when six Zips reached double figures in scoring to overtake UC Santa Barbara 84-70 in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic.
Zips guard Noah Robotham, a Vegas native, led the way with 15 points. Antino Jackson and Jake Kretzer added 14 apiece, and Pat Forsythe chipped in 13. Isaiah Johnson and freshman Josh Williams (Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School) tacked on 12 and 11, respectively.
"UC Santa Barbara has terrific perimeter players," Zips coach Keith Dambrot said. "We tried to be more physical inside, and that was the difference in the game. We were able to score in-front of the rim, and when they double-teamed, we made them pay the price."
The Zips (8-2) have won five straight. They return to action Wednesday afternoon in Vegas vs. Iona.
Gabe Vincent had 16 points to lead UC Santa Barbara (2-7).
