Could Warriors Land Paul George if Klay Thompson Leaves in Free Agency?

If Klay Thompson leaves in free agency, the Golden State Warriors are going to need to fill the hole that he leaves behind.

There continue to be indicators that point to Klay Thompson leaving the Golden State Warriors in free agency, and the team needs to plan for that happening.

Paul George has been one of the most talked about free agents so far this offseason. But in a recent report by NBA insider Brett Siegel, he says that the Warriors could be a sleeper team to land the nine-time All-Star.

Paul George

"Paul George’s situation with the Clippers is very interesting. Should the Clippers decide not to pay George what he wants, it may not be an Eastern Conference team that pursues George," Siegel said in a recent post on X. "Keep a very close eye on the Warriors regarding George if Klay Thompson is to leave."

He would most definitely not be a cheap option, but the Warriors could be willing to go all in if it means they would have a chance at giving Stephen Curry one more ring before he retires.

George does not seem to be affected by the fact that he is 34 years old, as his numbers are not going down at all. He averaged 22 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent from three this past season, and he did so while playing 74 games.

There are not a lot of things that the Warriors would not be willing to do to give Curry and the rest of their veteran core one more deep playoff run, and signing George this offseason could give them the best chance at doing so.
