Chet Holmgren’s frank assessment of OKC’s 7-0 unbeaten run coming to an end against Denver

The seven-footer remains confident about bouncing back from their season’s first loss.

All good things come to an end, and that was the case with the OKC Thunder on Wednesday night, as their seven-game winning streak concluded. The Nuggets, who were minus Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon, gave the team their first loss of the season.

Coming up short of two points, which wouldn’t have been the case hadn’t it been for Peyton Watson’s game-winning block on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Nonetheless, Coach Michael Malone and Co. deserved props for their defense and rallying back from a 16-point deficit.

Addressing their first loss of the 2024-25 season, OKC’s Chet Holmgren looked to move past this meeting with Denver quickly but not without attending to their shortcomings. Though the 7’ center had a double-double, it wasn’t in the most efficient way being a -11.

Thunder big man shares insights on team’s first loss

One of the most talked about teams this season, Oklahoma, has been on a tear, making waves with their performances on offense and defense. Receiving their first loss after a 7-0 start to their campaign, Chet would share insights from the game but didn’t read too much into it.

“We’d like to clean up some of our mistakes that put us in a position to be down in the first place. We did a good job in the last two minutes to give ourselves a chance,” explained the ex-Gonzaga player.

A few observations that needed to be looked into were the Thunder blowing a 16-point lead and allowing 69 points in the second half. However, there were positives to the game, coming via Jalen Williams, who was one assist shy from a 29-point triple-double. Playing in his hometown, Denver, the 6’5” forward was 11-for-20 from the field and had three steals.
