Knicks Reveal Concern Level About Offensive Efficiency
The New York Knicks may be just 11-8 on the season, but they carry with them one of the best offenses in basketball.
Especially in the Tom Thibodeau era.
Known as a defensive mastermind in basketball, Thibodeau has altered goals for New York this season and has helped their offense reach new heights in the team's first 20 games of the season.
As the team continues to succeed, though, defenses are trying to key in particular moments of the offensive structure. It has helped in some ways - New York's offense efficiency has taken a small dive overall in the last two games.
Even so, a coach like Thibodeau isn't going to be worried about their offensive production when something else is taking his time and energy.
“The thing is—I’m more concerned about [our] defense," Thibodeau said. “In the Dallas [loss] we scored 76 points and shot 66% [in the second half]. The numbers tell you how good the offense is. Points per possession, we’re No. 1 in the league. Whatever rating you believe in, I’ve seen every rating. Some have us second, some have us first. So that tells you how good it is."
While New York's offense is one of the best in basketball, their defense has been quite the opposite through the first quarter of games. The Knicks' defense ranks 23rd in basketball in defensive efficiency.
It's why, at this stage, the Knicks won't worry about adjustments made by opposing teams. Their offense has been fine even with them.
It's the defense that clearly needs more attention.
