Jalen Tolbert Draft Profile
College: South Alabama
A long, lanky deep threat, Tolbert has the physical traits and feel as a playmaker to translate to the pros. He’s at his best working downfield, where his long speed is good, but he’s truly outstanding tracking the ball. He’s also tenacious attacking it at the catch point. And despite coming from a smaller school, he flashes an advanced feel for route-running, changing up tempo and flashing surprisingly quick feet for a bigger receiver.
Tolbert is unlikely to dominate and outmuscle NFL defensive backs the way he did in the Sun Belt. He’s going to need to become sharper and more precise as a route-runner. He’ll also have to become more adept at beating press coverage.
He might need time to adjust to the speed and physicality of the NFL, but Tolbert’s size, competitiveness and ball-tracking ability give him a chance to be a big-play threat.
Final Grade: 2nd/3rd Round
