49ers’ Kyle Shanahan Reveals Moment When Trey Lance Asked To Be Traded

Trey Lance's time as a San Francisco 49er has come to an end.

Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick on Friday. After the 49ers' preseason game against the Chargers last night, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared some details about the blockbuster deal.

He claimed that Lance requested to be traded on Wednesday, shortly after the team informed him that he'd start the season as QB3.

"About an hour and a half later he came and told me that he would like [to be traded]," Shanahan said, via Pro Football Talk

Shanahan also suggested that he and Lance kept an open line of communication throughout the entire process.

"Him and I were communicating about it yesterday. The possibilities of it, told him some teams that were interested. So, I was talking to him about those options last night, what I thought was best, what he did," Shanahan said.

Ultimately, the Niners chose to send Lance to Dallas for a fourth-round pick. San Francisco will now move forward with Brock Purdy, while Lance will look to jumpstart his NFL career with the Cowboys.
