Breaking: Jets Make Official Decision On Quarterback Zach Wilson

New York Jets QB Zach Wilson

New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson

On Tuesday, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that he wasn't committing to naming Zach Wilson the team's starter in Week 12.

Wilson faced criticism following this past Sunday's loss to New England after putting up his worst performance of the season.

After throwing for just 77 yards on 22 attempts, Wilson fueled additional criticism after answering "no" to a postgame question asking the quarterback if he felt like he and the offense let down the New York defense that allowed just 3 points to the Patriots.

Today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Wilson has been benched for New York's upcoming matchup with the Chicago Bears this Sunday.

"Breaking: During a team meeting minutes ago, Jets players were informed that Zach Wilson is not starting Sunday's game vs. the Chicago Bears, sources tell ESPN. Wilson — who had a 5-2 record as a starting QB this season, with both losses coming vs. the Pats — is being benched," Schefter said Wednesday.

After winning each of Wilson's first four starts of the year, the Jets are 1-2 over their past three games.

In those three most recent contests, Wilson has thrown three touchdowns to three interceptions and in only game completed greater than 50% of his pass attempts.

Wilson's accuracy issues have been a hot topic ever since the quarterback was drafted 2nd overall by the Jets in 2021.

In his rookie campaign, Wilson completed 55.6 percent of his passes which placed him last among all NFL starting quarterbacks.

This season, Wilson is once again completing 55.6 percent of his pass attempts, again ranking dead-last in the NFL among starters.

Benching Wilson leaves the Jets with Joe Flacco and Mike White as replacement options. Flacco started the first three games of this season while Wilson was recovering from an injury.

The Jets, 6-4, will look to right the ship this Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
