Brian Daboll Recalls Insane 'Chair Slamming' Interview With Dan Campbell

Giants coach Brian Daboll

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is, to say the least, an interesting character.

Since being hired in Detroit last season, the Lions' coach has gone viral several times, including after his introductory press conference back in 2021 when he made comments about biting kneecaps.

Today, Campbell is back in the news again.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Giants' Week 11 matchup with the Lions, Brian Daboll shared a bizarre story recounting an interview with Campbell for the Dolphins' tight end coaching job back in 2011.

According to Daboll, Miami's former offensive coordinator, Campbell became out of breath during the interview after throwing multiple chairs and punching walls.

"Daboll, then the Dolphins OC, interviewed Dan Campbell for the TE coaching job in 2011. Daboll said Campbell slamming chairs and hitting walls, was out of breath for half of the interview. Campbell got the job ... and was in the next day at 5:30 am power cleaning and squatting," Dan Duggan tweeted Wednesday.

Per The Athletic's Dan Duggan, Daboll noted that Campbell got the job and was seen power cleaning and squatting the very next morning.

Responding to Daboll's comments Wednesday, Campbell praised the Giants' head coach despite only crossing paths for one season in Miami.

"He’s very smart, high energy, he’s got a real good personality about him. He can mesh with just about anybody and, man, he was fun to work with," Campbell said of Brian Daboll. "I’ve got a lot of respect for him. I think he’s a hell of a coach."

Despite Campbell having a one-year head start on his team's rebuild, the Lions currently sit at 3-6 while Daboll, in his first season coaching the Giants, has New York at 7-2.

The Giants and Lions will square off this Sunday at 1:00pm EST.
