Buccaneers' Jamel Dean Disrespected in Latest Corner Rankings
One of the areas of their roster that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could stand to work on is their secondary, specifically their cornerbacks.
In a recent article by Pro Football Network, they put together a ranking of the top 32 cornerbacks in the NFL. At No. 23 out of 32, they have Bucs veteran Jamel Dean, and he is on the only member of the team on the list.
"Jamel Dean has seen the Buccaneers’ secondary change a lot in his first five NFL seasons," PFN writes. "Tampa Bay’s secondary was stacked on their Super Bowl LV-winning team with Dean, Carlton Davis, Mike Edwards, and Antoine Winfield Jr. Winfield still remains, but Edwards and Davis do not. That makes Dean one of the faces of a Buccaneers secondary that looks to remain among the NFL’s best."
Now, the team's cornerback depth behind Dean is a bit of a question mark, but he will be looking to lead them to help the Buccaneers build off of the success they had in 2023.
Dean finished this past season with a solid 61 total tackles, considering the fact that he only played in 13 games. He was not able to get an interception, but there is more to being a good corner than just getting picks.
The Buccaneers will be looking to win their fourth straight NFC South title this season, and they will need their secondary to step up if they want to be able to do that.
