Bucs Reveal First Practice Squad; Who Made It?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut 36 players on Tuesday to form the first 53-man roster of the season. ... and 15 of those 36 will be on the practice field next week.
The Bucs' official roster shows a heavy emphasis on defensive players which caused the team to go lighter at wide receiver only carrying five guys.
The Buccaneers loaded up at wide receiver on their practice squad. The team brought back Cody Thompson, Ryan Miller, and Sterling Shepard. Thompson was the Bucs' most productive receiver during the preseason hauling in 15 receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Shepard is a seasoned veteran and while he missed most of training camp due to injury, he has 372 receptions in his career.
On the defensive side of the ball, they're bringing back safety Marcus Banks, linebacker Antonio Grier Jr., and defensive lineman C.J. Brewer. Brewer was on the Buccaneers practice squad the entire 2023 season, and Banks and Grier Jr. were undrafted rookies signed in May.
Grier Jr. finished strong in the preseason against the Miami Dolphins by recording an interception and seven tackles. The Bucs have one more spot to fill, but here is the full list of practice squad players as of now:
