Bills Ex Running Back Eyes Signing Return to AFC
The Buffalo Bills secured a solid 30-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, building on their divisional lead and proving their defensive resilience. With an 8-2 record, Buffalo remains atop the AFC East and continues to showcase their versatility on both sides of the ball.
Fournette, who was released from the Bills’ practice squad, recorded a modest 12 carries for 40 yards during the 2023 season with Buffalo. The former Jacksonville Jaguar and Tampa Bay Buccaneer joined the Bills' October of last season but saw limited opportunities in Buffalo's offense.
Shortly after signing, the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, whose replacement, Joe Brady, appeared to favor using depth running back Ty Johnson over Fournette. Bills head coach Sean McDermott hinted that the decision to release Fournette was largely driven by roster flexibility on the practice squad, given Buffalo’s recent injury concerns at the time.
The Bengals’ backfield issues extend beyond Fournette’s potential addition. Recently acquired running back Khalil Herbert fumbled in his Bengals debut, although he recovered, prompting Cincinnati to examine alternative options. With rookie Chase Brown currently leading a depleted backfield and veteran Zach Moss on injured reserve, the Bengals are evaluating Fournette and Herbert as possible solutions. If signed, Fournette is expected to begin on the practice squad, where he could earn his way to a more impactful role.
As the Bills look ahead, they prepare for a Week 11 showdown against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. A victory would reinforce Buffalo’s contention in the AFC and solidify their standing as a dominant force this season.
