Calls Escalate for Legendary NFL Broadcaster's Retirement Ahead of 'Thursday Night Football'
Over the years, the NFL has had some incredible broadcasters calling some of the most iconic games in the league's history. One of those broadcasters is Al Michaels, who has been one of the best in the business for the past four decades.
The matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants on 'Thursday Night Football' will be the 20th meeting between the two that Michaels has called, which is a pretty remarkable accomplishment. He also called one of the most iconic plays in NFL history, which was Odell Beckham Jr.'s unbelievable one-handed catch that took the sports world by storm in 2014.
That said, despite it being a joyous occasion for Michaels, people have continued their calls for his retirement as they believe he's not the same announcer he once was.
"Absolute legend, but he needs to hang it up," said one fan, with another adding, "It’s time for Al Michaels to step aside and let someone with energy and passion for the game take his place."
Other fans also chimed in saying, "Needs to pass the torch," and, "Time to hang it up after this season."
Though it's been a legendary career for Michaels, this season could very well be his last as these comments are nothing new. That said, fans should still cherish the time that they have with him calling games, as he has one of the most iconic voices in sports broadcasting history.
