Calls Mount For 2023 First-Round Pick To Be Cut After Ravens-Chargers
The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on "Monday Night Football" in the Harbaugh battle.
John Harbaugh got the best of Jim on Monday in Los Angeles as the Ravens won, 30-23. The game was 17-16 Ravens at the end of the third quarter, but Baltimore scored 14 points to start the fourth quarter to take a commanding 30-16 lead.
Gus Edwards, who replaced the injured J.K. Dobbins, rushed for a 1-yard score against his former team to make the score 30-23.
Once again, rookie Ladd McConkey led the Chargers in receiving with six catches for 83 yards. However, a sour spot was Quentin Johnston, who was targeted five times on Monday night and had zero catches with three drops.
After a stellar career at TCU, Johnston was selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft by the Chargers at No. 21 overall.
However, his brief NFL career has not gone well, and those struggles continued on Monday night.
After a zero-catch game, fans immediately called on LA to cut him.
"Chargers gonna cut Quentin Johnston this offseason. That’s ridiculous lol," one fan said.
"Cut Quentin Johnston. Seriously," said another. "Please cut Quentin Johnston," wrote another fan.
Dov Kleiman posted a video of one of Johnston's drops and wrote, "Cut him immediately."
"Cut Quentin Johnston I’m so serious," said another. "Quentin Johnston is legit awful. There should be a way for the league to step in and cut him," another fan mentioned on X.
"Quentin Johnston has turned back into a pumpkin. All of the good he did thus far this season is for not. Three drops tonight. Unacceptable," said another.
Another fan even said it's the "WORST WR GAME EVER."
As a rookie, Johnston had 38 catches for 431 yards and a pair of scores. In 2024, he has 22 catches for 354 yards and six scores.
In college, Johnston had a total of 2,190 yards with 14 touchdowns, including 1,069 yards and six scores in his final year at TCU.
However, the recent play by Johnston has not been great, and the drops on Monday night sent fans into a frenzy.
To make things worse, the Chargers selected him one pick before the Ravens drafted wide receiver Zay Flowers. In 2023, Flowers had 858 yards and five scores on 77 receptions and he had 727 yards and four scores entering Monday's game.
The Chargers cutting ties with Johnston in his second year might be a stretch, but Monday night was a horrendous performance from the wide receiver.
