With the regular season's conclusion rapidly approaching and teams looking to hit the gas in search of a postseason spot, the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday received the exact sort of news a team dreads.
Wide receiver Mecole Hardman, long one of the fastest players in the league, was placed on Injured Reserve due to an abdomen injury. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Hardman is expected to return after around four weeks.
As Hardman's above tweet alludes to, the timing of this injury couldn't get much worse. Before losing Hardman to the injury bug, Kansas City was already bracing for the possibility of JuJu Smith-Schuster missing time after suffering a concussion.
Combining these absences with the potential for Marquez Valdez-Scantling (illness) to miss time, and the Chiefs may face a serious depth issue at the position.
As of this writing, sophomore receiver Kadarius Toney appears likely to be the primary beneficiary of targets when the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11.
