Joe Burrow Named a Tier 1 Quarterback in The Athletic's Annual List
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow landed back in Tier 1 on The Athletic's annual QB tier ranking from Mike Sando. The writer gauges 50 league insiders about their QB rankings each year and only Patrick Mahomes landed ahead of Burrow.
He got 49 Tier 1 votes to just one Tier 2 vote.
“Burrow is fantastic,” a defensive coach said to Sando. “He is tough, smart, accurate, has a lot of the intangibles you are looking for. He just takes a lot of sacks, which I’m worried about with Joe. He gets hit a lot, and a lot of it is his fault, but he’s a dog.”
The lone Tier 2 voter isn't impressed with Burrow's ability to avoid sacks.
“Joe is going to hang onto it til the very last second, which is one of his great qualities, but sometimes you have to know when to say when,” this exec said to Sando. “He hangs in there in the teeth of the rush, but then when you get a hand on him, he is not real strong. He is not bouncing off people, he’s not pulling away from sacks like some of these other guys.”
