Deshaun Watson Announces Tragic Personal News Before Browns’ Season Opener
The Cleveland Browns are just two days away from their 2024 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys at Huntington Bank Field.
When quarterback Deshaun Watson takes the field on Sunday, he’ll do so with a heavy heart after announcing some tragic personal news on his Instagram story on Friday morning.
Watson posted a photo of a solid black background with the caption “Rest in peace pops,” suggesting his father, Don Richardson, has passed away.
It’s been well-documented that Richardson had been absent for much of Watson’s life, leaving his mother, Deann, to raise him and support his siblings (he has two brothers and a sister) by herself.
Watson told the Houston Chronicle back in 2017 that he only remembers seeing his dad “maybe five times at the most” while he was growing up.
“My mom was basically my mother and father, so I didn't really pay too much attention to it,” he said. “My friends had fathers. But for me it was just kind of, ‘Hey, my mother is the one that I'm going to rely on and I'll always focus on.’”
