'Much Love!' K.J. Henry Bids Classy Goodbye to Commanders
As the NFL season approaches, roster cuts are inevitable, and for some players, it marks the end of a chapter with their first professional team. For K.J. Henry, this moment came when the Washington Commanders released him as they trimmed their roster to 53 players.
However, Henry’s departure was marked not by disappointment but by gratitude, as he took to social media to share a heartfelt message to the Washington fanbase.
K.J. Henry, drafted by Washington in 2023, quickly became a fan favorite. His connection to the team was deeply personal—his father, a long-time Washington fan and college football coach, proudly donned an old Redskins hat and jersey when his son was drafted. Their bond grew even more poignant when Henry used his NIL earnings from his time at Clemson to help fund a kidney transplant for his father.
Though Henry's time on the field with the Commanders was brief—he appeared in 10 games during his rookie season—his impact was felt both on and off the field. Despite being waived, Henry was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals, giving him a new opportunity in the NFL.
Before moving on, he posted a message on X, saying, “Happy to have started it all in good ole DC!!!! Much Love 🙏🏾 #WNM.”
Henry’s message resonated with Washington fans, who responded with an outpouring of support and well wishes. His graceful farewell is a reminder of the human side of the NFL, where players often leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of fans, even after they move on.
