Should Cowboys Sign Controversial All-Pro in 'Desperation' Move?

Is the at-least passing interest in the controversial cornerback Xavien Howard fueled by Cowboys star Trevon Diggs' health?

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have been exploring emergency options to beef up their wounded secondary with CowboysCountry.com insider Mike Fisher breaking the story of the team's hosting of veteran cornerback Xavien Howard for a workout here inside The Star this week.

The 31-year-old, who has spent the entirety of his eight NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins, is currently a free agent after being dumped by that team in the wake of a nasty scandal.

The accusation against the former second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft who developed into a four-time Pro Bowler? He allegedly sent a male teenager a sexually explicit photograph of the teen's mother because she refused to get an abortion, accorind to a summertime court filing.

The woman who filed the suit accuses Howard of secretly recording the two of them having sex and then sharing the recordings with others.

"Xavien Howard operates by intimidation and force. Where he goes, destruction follows, and the lives of two individuals have been irrevocably altered because of him," attorneys Cam Justice and Adriana Alcalde wrote in their filing.

Understandably, Fisher is troubled by all of this, and suggests that while Dallas has some secondary needs headlined by All-Pro Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) missing the past two weeks, there is a level of desperation that is a bridge too far ...

And that the Cowboys' interest in Howard is that bridge - even if it signals that Diggs' injury issues remain somewhat of a concern.

Is the at-least passing interest in Howard fueled by Diggs' health? In the end ... The workout saw the Cowboys pass on signing Howard, with Dallas instead adding NFL practice-squadders Troy Pride Jr. and Dee Delaney to their own P-squad.

Diggs is slated to play on “Monday Night Football” tonight against the visiting Bengals … and we will monitor. Want more details? Check into the Fish Report here.
